Mentoring Program

Nothing is so potent as the silent influence of a good example.

Challenges

Challenges are a part of life. Sometimes, dealing with life's twists and turns can interfere with a person's ability to do their best. Many children (and adults) are fortunate to have a "natural mentor" in the form of a trusted neighbor, extended family member, coach, pastor, or the like, that can help navigate challenges. In other instances, our youth lack access to an adult outside their immediate family that can provide support, encouragement and a role model to emulate. The one-on-one attention of a mentor is a way to reach out, in a very personal way, to students searching to find their way.

The purpose of a mentor is not to take the place of parents or guardians, but to be a supplement to them. Mentors are neither counselors nor tutors, but mainly friends.

The goal of Unit 40's Mentoring Program is to give support to students as well as their parents and caregivers so that our children can be as successful as possible in both school and life.

Mentoring Program

The State of Illinois Mentoring Partnership has recognized Unit 40 Mentor Program for reaching their highest level of best practices in the field of mentoring. We are proud that we hold the highest standards for our mentors and students.
