Meal Program

Unit 40 Food Service offers breakfast and lunch in each of our school cafeterias. Our District qualifies for Community Eligibility Provision for the next 4 years, therefore breakfast and lunch will be free of charge in grades K - 8. The Type A breakfast and lunch at Effingham High School is also free of charge for students. EHS offers a la carte items which are priced individually. Extra food portions and extra milk will be charged to your child's account.

Lunch Debit System

The food service department uses a debit system to administer student lunch accounts in all buildings. We ask that parents maintain a balance in their child's account to cover all food and beverage purchases. Students will not be allowed to receive extra portions of food or milk if their account is in the negative. At EHS students will be directed to the free lines if their account is in the negative, no exceptions. You may check your child's account balance by calling the school office.

Meal Accommodations

The elementary and Jr. High schools participate in a federally-funded Child Nutrition Program and any meals, milk, and snacks served must meet program requirements.  Reasonable meal accommodations must be made when the accommodation requested is due to a disability and supported by a physician's statement.  Reasonable meal accommodations may be made for children without disabilities who may still have special dietary needs; a medical statement may be required.  For more information regarding this please contact Ryan Elsasser, Unit 40 Food Service Director, at 217-540-1527 or by email at [email protected]
