Effingham Schools offer programs that focus on the student as a whole and that serve children from early childhood to young adulthood. We not only provide experiences in early childhood, general education, and special education, but we have developed partnerships with colleges and universities that give our students a start on their post-secondary education.

Effingham Unit 40 spans grades P-12 and provides instruction in the core content areas of English Math, Science, and Social Studies in addition to special courses that vary by grade level and building. We go above and beyond by offering a variety of opportunities for students to explore:

Illinois Learning Standards

The Illinois State Board of Education has state-wide Illinois Learning Standards in the following areas: Early Learning, English Language Arts, English Language Learning, Fine Arts, World Language, Mathematics, Physical Development and Health, Science, Social Sciences, School Wellness, Career Technical Education, and Technology.

Continuous Improvement Processes

Illinois Districts and Schools are required to use relevant information for evaluating educational processes for effectiveness, such as curricular programs, professional development activities, school entities, personnel, and individual student needs.

Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS)

Our district implements Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS) which is based on the premise of intervening early to prevent failure and to maximize the effectiveness of grade level  curriculum and instruction. Providing every P-12 student differentiated, high-quality instruction matched to their specific needs to be successful in our education system through a system of support for academic, behavioral and social-emotional student needs. MTSS is grounded in the belief that ALL students can learn and achieve high standards.  A comprehensive system of tiered interventions is essential for addressing the full range of students’ academic and behavioral needs.  Collaboration among educators, families, and communities is the foundation of effective problem solving.
